For the seventh year in a row, Alabama is doing a health awareness program called Scale Back Alabama. It’s a 10 week long “competition” that challenges people to lose weight, be more active and, just over all, healthier. My company is participating for the second time this year. We form teams of 4 people and weigh in once a week. There are awards (gift cards) given to the group that loses the most weight, as well as the top male and female loser. I did participate last year…but didn’t really give it my all. I think I may have lost 5 pounds total (which I have since definitely gained back). This year I am really going to try and put forth the effort. It’s time to get back at it! My team is SLAM! It’s the first letter of all four of our first names (Shannon, Lori, Ada & Mirian). Lori came up with it! Too cute! The official start was this past Tuesday.
My first weigh-in I am tipping the scale at 192.6 pounds!!! YIKES!! I’m only 5’3″ peeps (chunky and compact I am). It’s kinda embarrassing to post this but it is what it is. And it IS all my fault (back to the you can’t blame anyone but yourself post). The first year I decided to try running and did the couch to 5k program, I got down to 170 pounds by the time I finished my first 5k (didn’t start quite as heavy as I am now). It makes me sad to think about the extra 23 pounds I am now toting around.
But I don’t have to stay this way! I would like to lose about 50 pounds total (not in only 10 weeks though, I know it will take longer). That will put me at about 140, which I think is good for my frame. Of course, I won’t be devastated if I stall out around 150 either. That would still be amazing!
I have a separate page for my current weight and workouts done. The tab is just under the header picture labeled, Scale Back Alabama.
So, wish me luck and throw some inspiring thoughts my way. I’m so going to need them!! Especially as the weeks go on.
